Thanks for your suggestion. But reloading XP is TOTALLY out of the question. Besides the fact that XP came loaded on this computer and I have NO XP disks.
But three years of heavy application loading.....I don't know how I could possibly do it.
Thanks...I'll try another approach.
Appreciate your speedy response.

Had trouble with one Windows XP computer attempting to play network games. Was directed to DirectX Network tab. Found DirectPlay8 services with errors, indicating DirectX should be reloaded. Reloaded DirectX V 9.0c - no help. Found also involved might be DirectX SDK .... loaded the Aug2005 version - no help.
Might you have any ideas on how to resolve these DirectPlay8 errors? The windows under the services on the Network tab says the system found errors and/or missing elements in the Registry associated with these services .... namely...DirectPlay 8 TCP/IP service provider, and the same IPX, Modem, and Serial service providers.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help.

Answer -
One approach would be to remove any software that you can live without and do an XP reload. Boot off the CD choose install then choose f8. This will load XP over itself. Don't forget to go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com afterward to install all the patches. This is pretty invasive but it is the only idea I have. I don't do a lot of gaming so I am not that familiar with directX issues.
Answer: Actually the reload following the steps that I mentioned should result in all your applications still being there and functional. In theory your computer should look and act exactly as before except for having the missing files. It is risky though and I have seen it crash and destroy the os. A much less risky idea would be to just go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com. There might be an update that will replace the missing files.
