Hi Andrew!
I am trying to connect a small lan of 3 pc's together and allow them to share internet access. My set up is as follows:
PC 1 has an internet connection via 1 ethernet card attached directly to an isp cable modem that is proxy provided. A second network card in the same machine is connected to a hub and a further two machines connected to this hub also.
My problem is in setting the ip addresses on each ethernet card so that they can all see the internet enabled card. I do have internet share set on the card connected to the internet.
Hope you can help
Yours thankfuly in advance
David
Answer -
What operating system are you runing on the machine with 2 NICs? If it is not XP you can still share the connection but you will need some other software.
I am using Windows 2000 professional! Does this mean that I will need to install a proxy server software pkg of some kind.
Thanks!
Answer: There are some free proxy software products out there. But my recommendation is to buy a $40 linksys or dlink router and use that to split the connection. It is definately worth the money if you have it to spare. If not you could get an old 200MHz computer from 10 years ago and load IPCop on it. www.ipcop.org. |
