Question: I have my old server (hard drive is full of old important files which I have backed up on CDs) that has NT on it which people tell me is not being supported any more.
But I need to have my computers talking to each other and the HP data collection (field work) downloads only work currently with my old NT server.
The Comcast people were making me nuts in getting the wireless internet connection working. Before they started I had my server still talking to my work station - now it won't. With the server having the CD Writer, I can still get files I need loaded on either the lap top or work station "PAR2". I don't really have any IT guy I trust to figure this out for me. I tried Best Buy "Geek Squad" but they won't touch my NT server. Any suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated.
This is the set up I need to be able to talk to each other:
New Laptop runs WINXP Home, a comcast netgear wireless internet connection, PAR2 computer runs win2K, with printer attached, an Intel In Business Hub, "ACE" computer WIN NT Server 4.0 has tape back up,
Answer: I am guessing that Comcast changed the IP address of your workstation to some default number like 192.168.1.5. Go to a command prompt on the workstation and type ipconfig.
Then do that on the server. If the first 3 octets are not the same then that is your problem. Example. The workstation is 192.168.0.54 and the server is 192.168.1.55. The last part of the addres must be different but the first 3 should be the same. Either both 192.168.1.x or both 192.168.0.x |
