Question: Thanks. Before I got your response, I went into My Computer -> Properties -> Computer Name -> and clicked the Network Name button so I could verify I was on the network. I followed the prompts and the network name was different so I changed it to the correct one, and voila!, I am now on the network and can see others as well as myself.

Hi
We have a network of 1 desktop and 2 laptops connected through a 4-port router. The DSL modem is also connected to the router.
Everything usually works fine, but lately, the computers cannot "see" each other in Network Neighborhood - they can only see themselves (except the desktop, which cannot even see itself).
We have tried using network wizard to set up a new network with the same name, but doesn't make any difference. All computers can get online through the DSL modem and router. The router lights indicate all computers are connected on the LAN.
Please help - we don't know what to look for.
Oh, the IP addresses all seem to be in the correct range for the router.
Thanks, Judi
Answer -
Sometimes for no apparent reason computers will disapear from the network neighborhood A.K.A my network places. No real reason. Try going to start -> run and type \\computername where computername is the name of the missing pc. See if you can connect that way.
Answer: Oh great. Glad to hear it. If you do need anything from me let me know. |
