Question: HI I am studying for MCP 70-272 (supporting users on XP),
I don't get this question and would like the answer to it:
The company has a mian office + a branch. The branch office has a wireless network. The Service Set Identifier of the wireless network is named CoBranch. Data on the wireless network is protected by using static Weird Equivalent Privacy (WEP) keys. A user travels from the main office to the branch office. The users portable computer has a wireless network adapter that supports Wireless Zero Configuration Service. The wireless network connection icon in the taskbar notification area indicates that the wireless adapter is connected to CoBranch with a signal strength of excellent. The user reports that she is unable to access her email messages or connect to any web sites on the internet. You discover that the IP address displayed in the Wireless Network connection status is 169.254.66.227. YOu verify that the branch office DHCP server s running and configured correctly and that other branch office users are able to connect to the wireless network, access their email messages and view Web sites on the Internet. What should you instruct the user do:
a) clear enable network acess control usig IEE 802.1x check box on the autehntication tab of the wireless network connection properties page
b) select data encryption (wep enabled) check box on the wireless networks properties tab of the wireless network connections page and then manually enter the network key assigned to the wireless access points.
C. Select the network authentication (shored mode) check box on the wireless networks properites tab of the wireless network connection prop page.
d) enter the SSID of the branch office wireless network on the wireless networks properites tab of the wireless network connection prop page.
This is the one question that i don't understand so if someone could explain it that would be great along with the answer.
Answer: They are testing to see if you understand how WEP works. The correct answer would be b. If you have excellent signal strength that rules out connection problems. They day that the DHCP server is working so it is not a DHCP server problem. They tell you that you have a 169. address which means that you can't get an IP over DHCP. Since we know the DHCP server is fine it must be on the client and since the connection is fine it must be that the wireless is configured wrong and a missing or incorrect WEP key would cause this. If you have any other test related questions you can also try posting them at www.mcseforum.com |
