Question: My gf's PC had died.
While the problem is sorted out, would it be possible to install her hard
drive onto my pc, so that when booting up we are given a choice of which
drive to boot from for that session?
Her drive is working ok ( I have already connected it to mine to tranfer
some important files). Both pcs are running XP pro , so finding the new
drivers for my set-up won't be a problem.
I have already run her drive on my pc as a solo drive and it booted ok and seemed to load fine (although obviously lacking a driver or two)
Answer: All you need to do is edit the boot.ini file on the first drive. Put both HDs in and see which os starts. Then edit it's c:\boot.ini. I don't know the proper syntax off the top of my head but you will probably copy the line that is there and change rdisk(0) to a 1. That tells it to use the other hard disk for the other entry. This thread should help you too.
