Question: Hello Andrew:
First thank you very much for trying to help out.
I am trying to use Direct-Cable-Connection (DCC) which I have successfully done before using other computers. I seem to be getting stuck at a very simple point on one of the computers which is:
Right click on "Network Neighborhood" and then left click on "properties" and then I left click on "Add" and highlight "Service" and then left click on "Add" to be able to Add "File and Print Sharing". However when I click on the last "Add" instead of a number of choices coming up and being able to choose "File and Print Sharing" nothing at all happens. I click on "Add" and I don't get any choices. So....I can't choose to add the service that I need (File and Print Sharing) and can't proceed any further with setting up DCC. Both computers are running Win98
SE and this is not a problem with the other computer. Thanks for any help you can provide.
Take care...........Zel
Answer: It sounds like there is a problem with the networking component of 98. You might try installing windows on top of itself. This should fix the problem while keeping your files and applications intact. It is not without risk though. Sometimes an reload like that trashes what is left of the registry. Make sure you have a good backup of your data. You could also go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and patch everything. If the bad file is something that is out of date anyway then patching it will fix the problem and be far less risky. |
