I wanted to chat online with some website (I can't remember for sure who it was, maybe FujiFilm re camera or maybe HP re scanner) but in order to do that I was instructed to download ActiveX. I'd like to get rid of it now, but I've read online how to do it but it's just so much gobble-di-gook - at least to me! Can you tell me in plain English -- step 1, step 2, etc. -- how to do that? Thanks!

I downloaded the file and it brings up a whole list of files in a separate window. The first one highlighted is "%systemroot%\system32\activeds.tlb" Below the window with the list, there are choices: Delete, Refresh, About, Exit. If I choose delete a warning window comes up that says: "WARNING This file %systemroot%\system32\activeds.tlb was *NOT* installed from the web! It is most likely needed for an application. Are you *SURE* you want to delete it?" When I say No and highlight the next listed file and click delete another window comes up asking me if I'm sure I want to delete "C:WINDOWS\DownloadedProgramFiles\logInfo.dll?" How am I going to know which files I should delete and which ones I shouldn't?
Answer: The one in the system32 is probably ok. Try renaming the C:WINDOWS\DownloadedProgramFiles\logInfo.dll file. That way you can always rename it back if something goes wrong. You can even rename it from recovery console if the computer stops booting. I doubt it will stop booting but just in case copy or rename the file. |
