|
Question: Hi
I have 2 Window XP Home SP2 machines conected peer to peer via a crossover patch cable through onboard network card.
The residential Gateway machine behaves perfectly when called to go on line - asking to dail up if conection is not present.
The 'work station' (Dell dimension 2400) shook hands immediately with the Gateway machine on bootup and between them configured the home network without any intervention on initial connection. (other than the network name- not MSHOME)
PROBLEM-
with the gateway machine on - the Work station INSISTS on having an internet conection at ALL TIMES by pestering and forcing a dial up on the gateway machine.
How do I control the dial up request from the workstation so that
a)It only requests dial up when it needs it
b)The key word there is request - not force!
I read in one MS KB that there is known issue with Zone alarm - Not Present on Either M/c.
Any Ideas ?
Answer: This might be a virus or spyware issue. It the workstation has a virus it might be constantly sending out information to the internet thus causing a constant request to the gateway to connect. It shouldn't other wise try forcing a constant connection. Try lavasoftusa.com for the spyware and trendmicro.com for the virus. |
