|
Question: Do you know how to to reset passwords, replicate profiles, and modify preferences in Active Directory, any web sites that explain how to do this would be a major help?
Answer: If you have admin access still you can easily reset passords. Just open active directory users and computers, and right click on the user you want to reset the password on. If you don't have the password checkout this link:rel="nofollow"mcseforum.com/forum/about16.html.
As far as profiles, you edit the user in active directory. Go to the account tab. There you will see the profile text box. Just enter the network unc path where you want the profile to be stored. |

Hi,
I am doing an internet sharing for my two pcs at home. The first pc, I put the IP address as : 192.168.0.1 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. Similarly, on the second PC I put the ip address as : 192.168.0.2 and the subnet mask as 255.255.255.0. The question is what will I put the Gateaway address column on these two pcs, when enabling internet sharing. Can you guide me.
I await to hearing from you.
Regards.

Answer -
One computer will server as the gateway(and no, I don't mean the cow computers!) This computer must have 2 nics. One nic is configured to connect to the Internet. The other NIC is configured as you have already done. Then you install ICS and on the other computer set the network to get the address from DHCP. The gateway computer will give out the addresses via a built in DHCP.
Answer: In this case setup the adsl router as you normally would. Get the gateway machine on the Internet first. If the adsl router uses usb to connect to the machine then you would only need 1 nic. Make sure you use a hub or switch to connect the to computers to. Plugging the patch cable from one computer to the other would only work if you had a cross over cable. |

Question: hi i got a job first IT job working as a support tech...just wondering...about some questions:
i have to configure dsl 302g modems on xp most of the time with an ethernet connection.
i run ping tests,
but i get 255.255.255.255, this is wrong i know but can never seem to explain why. but i can do ipconfig / release and renew but sometimes that doesn't work. what other ways can i trouble shoot to get a response out of the device. sometimes it is a hardware problem but most of the time it's not.
would just like to brush up on dos prompt and if any one can offer some advice an explanation on the above, that would be great.
Answer: ipconfig /all will give you all the information that is given to the computer over DHCP. It sounds like you get 255.255.255.255 for the ip address? I am not sure what that means but it is not normal. Normally if you don't get an address windows will make one up that starts with 169.254.x.x. Other wise you should see the address that it got. Are you getting this issue on one specific modem or every one that you have worked on? |
