|
Question: Thanks Andrew,
i called that number and it turned out that only TS Licensing was installed through the Add/Remove WINDOWS components and not Terminal Services itself. Now im wondering how the licenses are given.
So far i have about 6 people using Remote Desktop to the server and we only have a license pack of 10 so all looks good. But how many different people can use the licenses?
For example, i set up to be given out "per user" and not "per device" in the evet they will be using someone else's pc. So i have created those users but what happens if someone else wants to login but isnt one of those users and i dont want him to login as an admin? If TS only has 6 people logged in, can someone other than the set users make use of the other available licenses/license spots?
10 people allowed. x amount of people using with y open spots. who can use those spots? anyone who came in after the first 10 came, allowing any 10 people at once or only the first 10 people that logged in ever and snatched up a license?
I hope you understand the scenario im trying to convey.

Hi Andrew,
i have installed the license pack and it shows me the amount of available licenses. it says the server is activated but only 2 people can connect to the server at any given time. after that, i get an error saying that i have "exceeded the maximum number of connections."
how do i distribute the CAL's and if it's given upon connection, then why isnt the other users being able to login?
i have them set up as remote users with permissions and everything. i can only login as an administrator.
HELP ME OR I'LL BE FIRED!! lol

Put the users in the domain admins group ,TEMPORARILY ONLY! just to test and see if they get it. This way we will know if it is a license problem or not. If it is a license issue call microsoft. They give free phone support for any licensing question. (1-800-642-7676). If the users do get in when members of the domain admins group then it is a group policy issue. Let me know and I will try to help you.
Answer: I believe that per device is a "simultaineus access" license. This means that is counts concurrent users attached at that minute where as per user counts usernames. So once a user connects then they consume a license perminently. So even is 4 of your 10 users are not using the license it still will not let new users on. You might want to check with MS on that but I am pretty sure that is how it works. Also are you sure you can install both terminal services and the licensing from add/remove programs? I am almost positive that is where you install both of them. Unless I am thinking windows 2000 not 2003. |
