Question: Hi Andrew when I am studying for my MCP supporting users in XP, this is one question that I do not understand could you explain to me like you did with the wireless as I could understand how to pull information apart and put it together to get the right answer. Thank you so much.
You are a desktop support technician for XXYYinc. All client computers run windows XP professional and Microsoft office XP. A user of a new computer reports that when she attempts to use MS Outlook, she receives a message stating that the computer cannot connect to the company's Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 computer. You discover that the user just relocated from one branch office to another branch office. The user was able to connect to the exchange server from her old office. You instruct the user to run the ping command to connect to several IP addresses on your network. Some of the IP addresses are located in the branch offices. Each attempt is successful. You need to ensure that users new computer can connect to the Exchange server. What should you do?
a) configure the computer to have the correct subnet mask
b) configure the computer to have the correct default gateway address
c) configure the computer to have the correct IP address for the company DNS server
d) configure the computer to have the correct IP address for the company WINS server
Answer: It would be c. Since the user can ping machines at the branch offices we know that the gateway works. If the user has the wrong DNS then she might not be able to resolve the name of the exchange server. |
