Question: Recently purchased a new Dell system for the office. It was loaded with Windows XP Service Pack 2.
I installed the Microsoft XP Professional Office programs, firewire, and the Caselode accounting system on the computer.
The only problem is with Microsoft Word. The problem began when the attorney would open a word file from an attachment in Outlook. The files are saved on the G Drive and used by all attorneys with other administrative staff having access.
The paralegal wrote the document, saved it to the G:Drive and then sent it to the attorney as an attachment. The attorney opens the file, edits the document and re-saves it to the G Drive once more. This is when everything freezes up and we are forced to "Power off" the machine.
Since that time, every document that the attorney begins is freezing up his system.
I have updated all video drivers, re-installed Microsoft Office, updated XP OS. Help! This is driving me crazy.
Any suggestions?
Answer: It almost sounds like it might be a word virus. They are pretty common. Make sure you have the latest antivirus running. If you don't you can manually scan the machine for free at www.trendmicro.com. |
