|
Question: Hi Andrew,
I have a windows 2000 server and a mix of WindowsNT 4, Windows 2K and Windows XP Clients. Why is it that network response of Windows XP Clients is veryslow as compared to NT and 2K ? Is this a security issue ? or Authetication issue ?
Thansks ...
Answer: Typically there is no speed difference in speed with XP logon. Except that it might be a little faster. My guess is that the older computers are using WINS and the new XP DNS. Check your DNS servers to make sure that there is a reverse lookup for your subnet. If this is not present then login will be slow and there will be other minor problems. The w2k and NT4 may be working better because they are still using WINS. I am just guessing here so check that out and let me know |
