Question: hello,
i was just wondering if you knew if there is anyway to find out if the system clock has been turned back in order to write a paper, i think that one of my students did that..is there any way that i can know for sure?
Answer: If you are talking about forging the date on a file then unfortunately no. There are no logs that record clock changes. You might be able to find a product that would keep a log to prevent this from happening again. Also you would have to have access to the machine that was being affected. If you are talking about the date on an email then either the student has their own email server and they changed it's clock or you can be relatively sure that the time stamp is correct. Sometimes there are delays on the internet where an email will arive 3 day after the timestamp. If they sent you an email with Monday's date for example and it showed up in your mailbox on Wednesday it could very well be legit. It would be hard , though not impossible, to fake the date of an email. |
