|
Question: I have a friend who just got a used computer and was trying to set-up a dial up connection. When he would try to connect, it would say the modem could not detect a dial tone. But the phone itself has a dial tone. We connected the phone line into "phone" and the line from the wall into "line." Was that right? We even switched the connections around to see if that was the problem...no luck. Was hoping you knew of a suggestion for us.
Thanks,
Samantha
Answer: It sounds like you either have the wrong modem driver installed or the modem died. Open up the computer and see if you can see what kind of modem it is. www.driverguide.com has all kinds of drivers there. The username is drivers and the pass is all. Also go into control panel, system and device manager and see if there is a yellow question mark. See if the modem is listed under the question mark. If it is then is probably is a driver issue. |
