Question: I have a printer attached to a Windows 2000 Professional Computer. I have made the printer a share on that computer so that the other computers will use the printer. They need to enter a username and password to have access to it. However, I have a problem with Windows 98 computers trying to use it. When I try to locate the printer, it asks for only a password and not a username. I don't know how to allow access, since I can't enter a username. What's happening?
Answer: In order for 98 to access it you will have to have microsofts client for microsoft networks installed. You can right click network neighborhood and choose properties to install it. Window 98 will pass the username you are logged in on to whatever resource you conect to. So when you first login to Windows 98 log in as the user for that share. There is no other way to specify the user under 98. |
