Question: One more question. Isn't IIS a big security issue? And how will licensing work with IIS and 2000 server? In the link it mentions logging in anonomously. I would not want users to login this way. Would there be some way to configure login and password on theis ftp server?

Thanks again.

Do you know anything about WS_FTP Pro and server. I was wondering if I could use the client like a server and have internet users upload files to it. A client could act as a server right?

Does w2k have a built in ftp client/server in the os? I need for it to transfer files to/from another server. If it does not then I guess I will go with ws_ftp or something like that.

Thanks

This one is easy. It's a wee buggy but all in all not bad. Open internet explorer. Then instead of rel="nofollow"www.whatever.com type ftp://www.whatever.com. I do lot's of ftping and don't even have a client. This is all I use.

Oh, ok I miss understood. You also want to know about the serverside. There are various servers for Windows but I always use the one that came with Windows nt/200/2003.

Answer: Licensing is easy. IIS services do not count users because you can't. There is no way to know whether a hit is from 5 different users or the same users. They just decided to license ftp the same way. As far as security you definately want to keep your patches up to date and use good passwords. You can configure both the web and ftp servers not to allow anonymous access. Just for clarity are you using pro or server? If it's server open Internet services manager and right click on the ftp site and go to properties. Then choose the directory services tab. Under authentication click edit. You can turn off anonymous access and configure the login security.
