Question: The scenario
Happy Homes is a small independent estate agency based in the south west London. They currently have two offices; one in Morden and one in South WImbledon. The agency is a successful agency and has recently been doing rather well, having sold a few million pound houses in the last coupkle of months. As a result of this recent boost in fortunes, they have decided to review their current set up and see if they can improve their efficiancy.
After completing a customer survey they have drawn the following conclusions;
* Information between offices should be shared.
* Most customers looking in Morden would also consider Merton Park and South WImbledon as suitable locations.
* Customers would like to access property details online.
* Customers would like to be able to book appointments for any property vie either office.
Happy Homes are also considering expanding their operation by opening another branch either in Wimbledon, Mitcham, New Malden or Norbiton. This potential expansion needs to be factored in when completing this assignment.
As a networking consultant, please detail the best way to get the two current offices connected together, and advising how best to allow for the third office to be connected as well. The company have no one with the relevant expertise in this field and do not have a clue as to what is required.
Please help me answer these requirements:
What will they need?
1 Security is an issue. They dont have rivals to pinch their clients.
2 They need to have access to the internet.
3 They need to be able to share a database of clients and properties.
4 They need to be able to set up a shared viewing booking system.
Answer: You should consider getting a consultant in your area to help you with the details but the overview is this. Get an internet connection setup at each location and use a sonicwall firewall or something similar to create a secure VPN between the sites. You will need a static public IP at each site. You can add sites later easily this way. At this point you would have the network setup. Then you need to decide what application will store your data and where it will reside. There are a ton of considerations here so that is where you would need a consultant. You can send me the proposal when you get it and I can tell you if it sounds ok or if they might be trying to take advantage of you. It also is wise to get at least 2 bids from different consultants. |
