Question: Here is the gist of what I am trying to do. I run a small side business of computer repair/networking. Situation: One of my clients call with a problem with their pc, I would like to remotely connect to their PC from home to try and troubleshoot the problem. I run XP Pro at home and I can use remote desktop to connect to another computer that is directly connected to a cable modem with an actual IP address, but my problem is that many of my clients such as myself have routers that spit out generic IP addresses with a sub mask which then makes using the remote desktop function impossible. XP has something you can install which is called Remote Desktop Web Connection. I followed all the directions on the installation, but when it says “how to connect to another pc” it gives very vague directions. I am assuming that I need to make a server name or something… This is really kicking my but. All I want to do is be able to somehow connect to their computer to troubleshoot when there is a router in place. Am I going in the right direction with this remote desktop web connection? And if so, how in the world do I set it up and configure it so that I can be able to remotely connect via the web. From what I've gathered so far that with this software the client pc must open IE explorer and type in the URL of my server so that they can give over control of their pc via and activeX control. I am smart, but not that smart. Do you think you could help?
