Question: I have Windows 98. I'm on a Dell pc.
Awhile ago we put this Linksys thing(I think it's an ethernet router or something? We put it on so two computers could get on the same internet connection) on our computer and someone said it's like having a double or triple firewall?
Does that mean that our computer can not be broken into?
I just found out that if you go to some websites chats and games they can see your ip address. And even if you send out a Yahoo e-mail...people can click on "full headers" and are able to see your ip address.
Even if anyone had that info... with this Linksys thing on the computer, could they break in or hack it or anything?
I hope this made sense and ty for any info you might have! RY
Answer: I don't know why they would say it's like a double or tripple firewall. It's just a basic NAT firewall. The linksys and Dlink routers out there are just simple firewalls. However they are pretty effective for most stuff. As far as your IP being broadcast that is normal. It is not really a problem. The biggest threat that you have is from malicious code in websites and emails. Make sure you have some kind of antivirus. Also go to www.lavasoftusa.com and download adadware. This should remove spyware from your machine. Spyware is a very common problem these days and it is unbelievable how these $#@$!s get this junk installed your computer. You might also want to use mozilla for a web browser since Internet Explorer is full of security holes. |
